1:1 Flower & Garden Photography Tuition

My one-to-one photography classes are designed for individuals who already possess a basic knowledge of photography and camera functions but wish to enhance their skills in the specific genre of flower and garden photography.

These photo-walk classes focus on composition and adapting to the natural light and conditions of your environment to capture plants in the most flattering way.

Learning in-person in a garden enables you to immediately apply the techniques taught by me, and receive instant feedback and tips. The class is followed up with email support if you seek my advice on editing the photos from our session.

Classes are taught March-October in Enfield at either Myddelton House Gardens or Capel Manor Gardens (entry ticket price included)

£85 for 1.5hrs for one person, with the option to bring a friend for £35

Want a longer session? Choose two consecutive afternoon slots below for a 3hr session (we will stop for a break - tea & cake included!)

If you would prefer to learn from me via Zoom, click here

You will learn:

  • To identify the most flattering light for flower photography and adapt to more challenging conditions through the use of your camera functions, physical positioning and diffusing or reflecting

  • To analyse subjects in order to capture their most compelling points of interest

  • To achieve sharp focus in your images

  • To select the appropriate aperture for various plants to achieve a range of creative effects

  • How to maximise the capabilities of your specific lens

  • Why your background is just as important as your subject, and how to create complimentary backgrounds for your photographs

What you will need:

  • A DSLR or mirrorless camera (i.e the ability to use manual/aperture priority mode)

  • If you own a macro lens, please bring it along with a general-use zoom lens. Just bring the latter if you don’t own a macro

  • Much of how I photograph and teach does not require a tripod, however, if you have limited mobility or a particular desire to use one, do let me know and I can tailor the class around it

  • Comfortable footwear and a jacket in case of rain - though in the case of a bad weather forecast we can reschedule!

Both gardens offer on-site parking with convenient access from the M25 and A10. Alternatively, for those travelling by train, the nearest station is Turkey Street, which provides links from Liverpool Street.

Please use the scheduling calendar below to book your session

If you only have availability at weekends, please email info@marinawalker.co.uk to enquire separately and I will open up a mutually convenient weekend slot for you.

Thank you for a delightful afternoon of photography, teaching and garden wandering. Myddelton House was magnificent and I came away with better quality photos in a few hours than I have taken all year! You are a wonderful patient teacher and have a marvellous ability to explain things in layman’s terms!

What my clients say:

I really recommend Marina’s private photography lessons for those wanting to brush up in this fairly niche genre of photography. Marina’s expertise in this area is evident and her enthusiasm for it a joy to see.
— David, Mitcham
The range of floral subjects available to photograph during our garden walk made Marina’s teachings significantly easier to put into practice. She has been an excellent support both during and after the class with her vast knowledge of cameras and editing.
— Sasha, Welwyn Garden City
